Members of the Civic Chamber of the Republic of Karelia participated in "Petrozavodsk - Tübingen: experience and prospects of cooperation" round-table talks
This year celebrates the 30th anniversary of the twinning between Petrozavodsk and Tübingen. To celebrate the date, Karelian capital city held "Germany Days" event. In early September, Petrozavodsk welcomed a delegation from its twin city as a part of the "Citizen Travels" project led by "West-Ost" Society in Tübingen and the opening of "Tübingen - Petrozavodsk: Double reflection" international photo contest winners exhibition. The National Library of the Republic of Karelia opened an exhibit, titled "Germany: yesterday, today, tomorrow" and Petrozavodsk State University organized a round-table discussion and a public lecture "German twin cities of Petrozavodsk" by Ernest Tsypkin, Associate Professor of Department of German and French Languages. Later in September, Papilio+GOBELIN puppet troupe delivered a workshop to the students of the Institute of Foreign Languages, and the festive evening with a joint performance by "Prresto" Choir from Tübingen and Academic Female Choir "Gloria" from Petrozavodsk took place at the beginning of October.
On October 10, "Petrozavodsk - Tübingen: experience and cooperation perspectives" round-table talks were held at "Tochka Kipeniya" center. The members of the official delegation from Tübingen, experts from Petrozavodsk State University and Tübingen University, Germany Consulate General representatives, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Republic of Karelia representatives, NGOs and members of the Civic Chamber of Republic of Karelia (Lyubov Kulakova, Anatoly Tsygankov and Maria Pituhina) participated in the round-table talks. The talks included presentations on educational and social issues, twin cities cooperation experience, and the role of the university in the social field of the region, as well as discussions of PetrSU cooperation with German partners. Later, a panel discussion titled "Current state of twinning relationships" was held.
The opening of the exhibition of archive materials relating to Tübingen and Petrozavodsk interaction history, assembled by the National Archive of the Republic of Karelia and Petrozavodsk Municipal Archive, was set up to coincide with the arrival of the delegation.
Other events planned for "Germany Days" include: "German cinema days" with film screenings at the Cultural Center "Premier"; "The Power of Emotions" exhibition (Berlin); "Germany today" public lecture by Ernest Tsypkin, Associate Professor of Department of German and French Languages at PetrSU; and much more. "Germany Days" event was prepared by Karelian Resource Center of Non-governmental Organizations, Petrozavodsk State University, the International Youth Center, Republic's Cultural Center "Premier"; German Cultural Center in Petrozvodsk, the National Archive of the Republic of Karelia and Petrozavodsk Municipal Archive, Derzhavinsky lyceum, the City Exhibition Hall, the National Library of the Republic of Karelia, "Malenkaya Strana" Creative Center, Children's Music and Choir School, Petrozavodsk City Administration, and "Friends of Tübingen" club. The main coordinator of the project is Karelian regional fund "Petrozavodsk". The project is powered by the German Embassy in Moscow and Germany General Consulate in St. Petersburg, Tübingen Mayor's Office, Tübingen University, "West-East Society" (Tübingen), and Goethe German Cultural Center in St. Petersburg.
