We have recorded the first podcast ‘Stone Necklace of Karelia’! Let us remind you that our goal is to preserve and popularise the mining heritage. We plan to invite geologists, historians, local historians who are engaged in the study, preservation and popularisation in this sphere.
Within the framework of the project ‘Industrial Karelia: New Dimensions’ active work is being carried out in Pitkyaranta. In the Brick Yard of the Local History Club ‘Obereg’ new showcases and signs with the description of bricks have appeared.
On 12 June, an expedition to Suojärvi district took place within the framework of the project ‘Industrial Karelia: New Dimensions’.
The purpose of the expedition was to search for iron ore and building stone mine workings related to the activities of the Suojärvi iron smelting plant.
Nikolay Georgievich Oskin, the project manager, opened the event by presenting the general results and achievements of the project. Ksenia Chumak told about how the collection came into being. The publication consists of two parts, the first one is devoted to the stories of social business initiatives from five districts of Karelia.
The Brick Yard recently turned a year old. Thanks to the project ‘Industrial Karelia: New Dimensions’ 200 new plates with the history of each brick in the collection appeared. Five new showcases, also made under the project, housed other expositions on the history of the region.

On June 26-27, the second visit of specialists to the Shunga mine took place within the framework of the Karelia Industrial: New Dimensions project with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund.
The main purpose of the trip was to continue collecting scientific material about the unique shungite tunnel in the Zaonezhsky village of Shunga.
