Final Retreat under the ‘National Battalion of the Karelian Front’ Project
Suoyarvi hosted the final retreat under the ‘National Battalion of the Karelian Front’ project on August 10.
The ‘Candle of Memory’ event was dedicated to Nukh Idrisovich Idrisov, a Tatar poet and soldier during the years of World War II. He blocked a German machine-gun with his body during the battles near Lake Tolvojärvi on July 27, 1944. Nukh Idrisov was posthumously awarded the Order of the Patriotic War 1st class. In 1982, thanks to Igor Ravin and Tatyana Ravina, the hero's grave was found; his remains were reburied in the village of Vegarus.
The event was attended by a delegation of the Karelian regional public organization ‘Society of Tatar culture “Chulpan’ led by Farida Fadeeva, Olga Kichmanyuk, Director of the Suoyarvi Central Library System, Natalya Larionova, the Head of the Museum of History and Local Lore, Tatyana Tishkova Deputy Head of the Administration of the Municipal Body ‘Suoyarvsky District’, Tatyana Ravina and Igor Ravin. The participants held a Subbotnik, laid flowers and recited poems dedicated to the hero Idrisov.
The event ended with a round table discussing future plans to nurture a sense of patriotism as well as to develop the culture of intercultural communication. Farida Fadeeva gave away books by Tatar authors to the Library and the Museum of History and Local Lore of the Suoyarvsky District.
