Round Table: ‘Different Children - Equal Rights!’
A round table ‘Different Children - Equal Rights!’ was held in the Sortavala District Intersettlement Library on June 11. The round table was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of National and Regional Policy of the Republic of Karelia, the Centers for Interethnic Cooperation in the Ladoga Region, as well as by chairmen of national and cultural autonomies.
Gennady Saraev, Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child in the Republic of Karelia, spoke about the risks and threats of rights violation of vulnerable groups of children, including migrants, in the context of the digitalization of society. Nowadays children are creators and consumers of information, and access to the digital environment is an important tool for children to exercise their rights. Nonetheless, children face a wide variety of threats in the digital world that need to be anticipated and mitigated.
Vladimir Simakov had addressed the topic of the formation of a culture of interethnic communication among the younger generation. He also demonstrated new books by Karelian authors, intended for children of preschool and primary school age, which will soon become available to a wide audience.
The round table participants managed to share experience and outline future plans for joint work.
