Expedition to Pudozhsky district 4-7 August
It was a wonderful trip. During 4 days we had time to:
- to see the remains of the Povenets blast furnaces of the Povenets plant - thanks to the project ‘New life of old ruins’ the object was improved, and next to it there was a picture of the blast furnace and the process of iron smelting in the XVIII century The project was realised by ANO ‘Heritage of Karelia’ with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund;
- explore 2 deposits - ‘Tokimovka Mountain’ near the village of Shalsky and ‘Kashina Mountain’ in the village of Kashino;
- examine sites near the villages of Pyalma and Rimskoye - Petrov Zasek, outcrops of pale pink dolomites, remains of a core storage facility, and a small old quarry;
- collect about 30 specimens for the A.F.Korablev Pudozhsk Museum with primary description for further use in the creation of a new exposition dedicated to the geology and mining heritage of the area.
The collected materials will be included in the final publication on the project.
We would like to thank Alexey Alexeyevich Golubtsov for meeting us at Tokimovka, Alexey Mikhailovich Egorov for the excursion to Kashina Gora, Pyotr Alexeyevich Potashev for meeting us in the village of Pyalma, Svetlana Nikolayevna Fomina and Victor Klimov for accompanying us to the village of Rimskoye, as well as A.F.Korablev Pudozhsk Museum and personally Elena Vladimirovna for active participation in the project and love to the native land
