Ksenia Chumak, the project coordinator, told about the goals and objectives and the main planned activities. Sortavala district does not belong to the target areas of the project, but it has a large number of objects of mining and industrial heritage on its territory.

The conference ‘Geological and mining-industrial heritage of Karelia in education, museums and tourism’ as well as local history readings for schoolchildren will be held in Sortavala within the framework of the project. I.V. Borisov, Scientific Secretary of the Regional Museum of Northern Ladoga, is a member of the project team, who is responsible for expedition trips and preparation of a publication on the mining and industrial history of the Medvezhegorsk and Pudozhsk districts.

The event was attended by representatives of the Sortavala District Administration, the Regional Museum of Northern Ladoga, the Sortavala Library, and local tour guides.

We would like to thank the library for providing the premises and all partners for their participation and useful suggestions for the project implementation.

The project is realised using a grant from the President of the Russian Federation, provided by the Presidential Grants Fund.
